What services are counted as old tattoos?
When we are talking about old tattoos, no matter if you have already got Microblading treatment, ombre brows or eyebrows shading. All of them are counted as old tattoos.
Microblading as old tattoos:
Most people in this group, have got microblading not a long time ago, but due to lack of proficiency and because of deep work of the initial treatment, their microblading has turned to a shade now similar to faded eyebrows shading.
Ombre Powder brows as old tattoos:
This group of people is divided into two subcategories:
- People who got the treatment a few years ago now want to have a new and fresh look.
- People who have got ombre brow but due to a botched work such as wrong outlining, they want to correct it.
Eyebrows shading as old tattoos:
This group is the same as powder brows and is divided into two subcategories:
- Women who have old shading and want to renew it
- Women who want to correct the shape of their eyebrows
Microblading over old tattoos:
Powder Ombre Brows over old tattoos:
Ombre brows are a new kind of shading with a soft and powdery shape at the crown and top part of the eyebrows and in most cases are done with brighter colours than old shading. This technique could be used over the old tattoos in most cases with two limitations:
- The new colour of eyebrows should be equal to or darker than the old tattoos and because most of the old ones are light grey, we can say light brown to dark brown can be used over the old tattoos. It should be noted that colours like blond and very light ones, cannot be used.
- The new shape of the eyebrows should be equal to or greater than the old tattoos. You cannot ask your artist to outline smaller eyebrows than the previous ones.
Notice: In all cases, the artists should select the colour based on their knowledge and experience. In some cases, cold colour is needed while in others a warm colour. The colour selection depends on skin colour, old tattoo colour and the artist’s point of view for using neutralizer and colorizer.

How can I remove my old tattoos?
1- Laser Removal
A laser is a non-destructive way to break down the ink particles into finer particles using a high-energy electrical current or light. A laser is the best way to remove your old tattoos and several sessions are needed to remove them completely. Depending on the depth of pigments and old tattoos, the number of required sessions is different and could be between 2 to 6 or even more sessions. The laser technician will determine the number of your sessions.
2- Saline solutions (Salted water or other solutions)
In this technique, the ink tried to be taken out by a machine and salted water and is mostly used for permanent makeup. It works well for fresh and continuous tattoos. In general, it is not an appropriate way to remove the entire old tattoos and is mostly used for a tiny area.

All in all, depending on the condition of your old tattoo, the new one might be worked over that. It depends on the artist and it is essential to tell them about your old tattoos if you have any. Some artists do not accept new clientele with old tattoos because the result will not be as fresh as they want and they ask you to remove your old tattoos and come back again while others try to clarify the circumstances and give you the best solution based on your current tattoos.
