What is scalp micropigmentation:

Scalp micropigmentation, also known as SMP, is a cosmetic procedure designed to conceal baldness and restore thinning hair for both men and women. This innovative technique involves implanting pigments in a specific layer of the scalp, creating thousands of micro-sized needle impressions in the dermis layer of the scalp. Typically, the SMP process requires three sessions, with the density of pigmentation increasing gradually in each step. This multi-step approach enables us to achieve a 3D appearance that resembles a closely shaved head.

Scalp Definition: The scalp is an anatomical space that is confined to the face from the front and to the neck from the end. The scalp is made of five layers and hair grows in the outermost layer of the scalp.

SMP process time: The number of sessions required for scalp micropigmentation (SMP) can vary depending on the treatment area. Generally, the process requires two to three sessions, with each session taking between 2-4 hours. The duration of the treatment can vary depending on the extent of baldness or thinning hair. Individuals with larger baldness patterns may require longer treatment times than those with thinning hair. The goal of SMP is to achieve a natural appearance, so the treatment will continue until the desired result is achieved.

Healing: During the scalp micropigmentation (SMP) procedure, the needle creates tiny wounds in the scalp. It's important to note that these wounds should be treated as such. Typically, scabs will form and the pigments will stabilize within one week of the procedure. It's essential to allow adequate time for micro-wound recovery to avoid any complications. Scalp Micropigmentation for men-Thinning

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a popular cosmetic treatment option for men experiencing hair loss or thinning. Baldness and thinning hair are common issues that can affect men's self-confidence. SMP offers a fast, affordable, and short-term solution for those looking to enhance their appearance. This innovative technique offers two different patterns for men: one for baldness and one for thinning hair. For men with thinning hair, SMP can provide a stylish solution that allows them to keep their hair as long as they want while achieving a denser look.

The visibility of the scalp is often the main reason why thinning hair becomes noticeable to others. Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is an effective method of increasing hair density by replicating hair follicles and covering the white background of the scalp, resulting in a thicker-looking head of hair. The final result of SMP is natural and not easily recognizable, blending seamlessly with the individual's existing hair. SMP is a versatile treatment option that can be applied to a wide range of thinning hair concerns, including hairline restoration, post-hair transplant recovery, alopecia, and more.

Scalp Micropigmentation for Women-Thinning

Scalp Micropigmentation for women follows the same technique and pattern as for men. Obviously, women are less interested in doing hair transplants in comparison to men. However, another popular option for ladies is available, and it is SMP.

As a lady, no matter what kind of thinning hair you have, partially or diffusively, you can cover it perfectly with scalp micropigmentation.

One of the most important questions women SMP is about matching the colour of their hair with the pigments. please pay attention that SMP pigments match all hair colours and we need to choose the right colour based on your root of hair and skin colour.

Scalp Micropigmentation for Men-Balding

Scalp micropigmentation for the whole head has different names, such as Full-SMP or Sport-SMP. Men with a high level of hair loss can have a stylish shaved head look using this type of SMP. They can restore their hairline with different shapes, such as edgy, soft or sharp appearances.

In this type of scalp micropigmentation, we shape the shaved head look gradually in three sessions. The first session is a primary session to shape the base of the treatment, the second session is for increasing the density and the third session is a touch-up session to cover the faded areas and increase the density until clienteles' satisfaction.

In addition, many people who have a thin hairline and like to have a shaved head look can use this technique as well. We shape the temples and hairline based on their request and match the colour with their hairline.

Scar Concealment

That is right, scar concealment is one of the most popular applications of SMP. Camouflaging the disorders, wounds and scars are other applications of scalp micropigmentation whether the scars are from surgery, accident or even congenital.

One of the drawbacks of a hair transplant is creating FUE and FUT scars on the back of the head and most people who have done this surgery cannot have a buzz-cut hairstyle. Both types of scars could be covered naturally in an unrecognizable way.

Scalp Micropigmentation cost

The price of scalp micropigmentation varies depending on each clinic's policy. However, our ranges are between $800 to $2500 depending on the treatment area. For a quote, please send some photos of the area you need to be treated and then we can give you the exact price shortly.

Also, you can find a rough estimate on our SMP pricing page. We calculate the price of SMP based on the Norwood scale. You can find your Norwood scale from the picture and then find your price from the table on the left side of the page.

Scalp Micropigmentation Aftercare

Paying attention to aftercare is remarkably essential to have the best result. On the Aftercare page, we explained the short-term and long-term things you need to do and avoid to have the best longevity and result. The most important short-term aftercare are:
  • Do not wash your head for 4 days
  • Avoid using moisturizes for 4 days
  • Please do not shave your head for 5 days with the machine and 10 days with a razor
  • No excessive sweating for one week
  • No swimming and sauna for one month

Scalp Micropigmentation Precare

SMP pre-care is as crucial as post-care. Paying attention to SMP pre-care can affect the following factor:
  • Pain control: Consuming too much coffee can lessen the efficiency of the numbing ointment and you might bear more pain during the treatment
  • If you are taking medication or have a disease, please inform us. We might ask for the physician's permit.
  • Reduction of irritating and redness effects
  • Better pigment settlement due to a decrease in blood oozing or plasma
  • Higher result quality

Scalp Micropigmentation Applications

SMP is a technique which has a wide range of applications. Below are some of the applications of this method:

SMP as a complementary process for hair transplant:

One of the most interesting applications of scalp Micropigmentation is to complete the hair transplant process by creating a suitable density in the person's hair. In many cases, a hair transplant is not an appropriate option for both men and women. Here are the main reasons people avoid doing hair transplant:
  • Insufficient hair bank (Donor area) for the desired density,
  • Enduring severe pain during and after hair transplants,
  • High costs of hair transplant and aftercare medicine
  • Long-term result
  • Scars after the surgery
Creating FUE and FUT scars on the back of the head is another demerit of hair transplant. SMP, as a complementary method, can be used to cover these scars on the back of the head naturally.

Using as a semi-permanent hair fibre or toppik

Instead of using the hair-building fibres (sprays and powders), which disappear after each wash and you need to  renew it, scalp micropigmentation offers a semi-permanent solution of the same quality. here are some drawbacks of the Toppik which have been solved with SMP:
  • Short-term use and needs daily renew
  • Makes the pillow and surfaces that come in contact with the head dirty
  • Causes scalp irritation and itching in sensitive skins
  • Limiting your daily activities such as swimming, exercising, etc.
In the cases where the patient has lichen planus, there is the concern of disease reactivation by doing a hair transplant. In these cases, Scalp micropigmentation has less damage and trauma than a hair transplant and could be substituted with hair transplant. It is clear that in these cases, a doctor's permission is needed to perform the SMP.
Depending on the location, the SMP has different names, such as MicroScalp, Hair follicle replication, Hair Tattoo, Head Tattoo, and Scalp Tattoo. Note that people just use these names and this technique differs from tattooing in various aspects.
SMP is a subset of medical micropigmentation and has too many applications. Usually, doctors do not do SMP themselves and prefer it to be done by trained and skilled technicians.
SMP is used for covering baldness and thin hair areas, Fading the stitches after hair transplantation (FUE & FUT) or any kind of scar, any type of alopecia, Camouflaging wounds caused by surgery or scars (fractures) on the head or eyebrows, hiding wounds, burns and birthmarks, simulation of hair in the beard and mustache area, correction and repair of hair growth lines, Increasing the visual effect after hair transplantation

Other Applications of SMP

In the cases where the patient has lichen planus, there is the concern of disease reactivation by doing hair transplantation. In these cases, because Scalp micropigmentation has less damage and trauma than hair transplantation, it is an alternative method of choice instead of hair transplantation. It is clear that in these cases a doctor's permission is needed to perform the SMP.
Depending on the location, the SMP has different names such as MicroScalp, Hair follicle replication, Hair Tattoo, Head Tattoo, and Scalp Tattoo. Note that these names are just used by the people and this technique is different from tattooing in various aspects.

Why Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)?

SMP technique is a quick way to achieve the desired appearance. Unlike hair transplant, which lasts for months and is very painful and expensive, people can achieve their desired appearance after the second session with less pain, aftercare and costs. There is also a high rate of failure in hair transplants, either due to the tedious and expensive aftercare or due to genetic reasons, while scalp micropigmentation, SMP, has eliminated this defect.

Scalp micropigmentation is a branch of cosmetic tattoo and the success is this method is as high as getting a tattoo on your body. I believe, SMP works for many groups of people with hair loss or thin hair without spending time and cost on other products.
